Wireless Help

I'm having a problem connecting my laptop to my wireless router. The error I am getting is "Windows was unable to find a certificate to log you on to the network".

OS is winxp sp2.

Your Windows box is trying to use certificate based authentication, but the router is unlikely to have been setup to support this.

Here is a page which talks about how to disable this. Your version of Windows may be slightly different, but the basic principle applies.

Thanks for the reply. That box is not checked, and everything on that tab is grayed out :(

After I posted this, I tried setting the router to WEP personal, and matching the settings in the wireless options. Still getting the message.

For a temp fix, would it work to just disable all security so I can get updates and such?

you can give that a shot (but be alert for third parties connecting onto the wireless device). However, based on the error the Windows box is trying to use a security method not configured on the router, so turning off security on the router isn't likely to help. Need to find the setting in Windows which is making it want to use a certificate to negotiate the connection.
